Welwa™ — Terms of Service
Welcome to Welwa. By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app. We've kept this short and written in plain English.
1. What Welwa is
Welwa is an Android app operated by Pacio LLC, a Michigan limited liability company. Welwa scans product barcodes and reads ingredient labels to flag allergens and dietary preferences for the people in your household. It has a free version (with ads) and two paid Premium tiers. References to "Welwa," "we," "us," and "our" in these terms mean Pacio LLC.
Welwa is currently offered in the United States only. If you are accessing the app from outside the United States, please do not provide personal information through it.
2. No account required
You do not need to create an account to use Welwa's basic scanning features — point the camera at a barcode or ingredient label and the app gives you a verdict for the household members you've added. The app generates a random anonymous device ID on first launch to scope your local data; it never leaves your phone.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Welwa. Welwa is not intended for children under 13. The age requirement applies to you as the device user — household member profiles you create for younger family members are stored only on your phone.
3. Subscriptions
Welwa Premium is sold as a monthly or annual subscription. We use RevenueCat as our subscription-management system — RevenueCat handles entitlements, receipt validation, restore-purchase flow, and our subscriber dashboard. On Android, RevenueCat processes payments through Google Play Billing, which is Google's required in-app payment system for the Google Play Store; the charge appears on your statement as a Google Play subscription. The mechanics below describe the user-visible billing experience.
Pricing (V1)
| Tier | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Tier 1 — extra dietary filters + up to 6 family members + unlimited scan history + ad-free | $1.99 | $14.99 |
| Premium Tier 2 — everything in Tier 1 + unlimited family members + household nutrition dashboard + priority processing + exportable allergen reports | $4.99 | $39.99 |
Free 14-day install trial: When you install Welwa for the first time, you may pick one Premium dietary filter (Kosher, Halal, Keto, Sugar-Free, or GMO-Free) to use free for 14 days. No payment information is required. At the end of the 14 days, the filter reverts to locked unless you subscribe.
Billing terms
- Billing: Charged to your Google account at the start of each billing period (RevenueCat processes the charge through Google Play Billing).
- Auto-renewal: Your subscription renews automatically at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Cancellation: Cancel any time in Google Play Store → your account → Subscriptions → Welwa. RevenueCat receives the cancellation from Google Play automatically. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep Premium until then.
- Refunds: Google Play handles refund processing because that is where your payment lives. See Google's refund policy at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637. We don't issue refunds directly. If you believe you were charged in error, contact support@welwaapp.com and we will help you open a refund request with Google Play.
- Restore purchase: If you reinstall Welwa or switch Android devices, open Settings → "Restore purchase." RevenueCat re-fetches your subscription state from Google Play and restores Premium without re-charging you.
- Price changes: If we raise the price of an existing subscription, we will tell you at least 30 days before the next renewal and give you the option to cancel before the new price takes effect.
4. What Premium includes
Premium Tier 1:
- Unlimited scan history (Free retains 30 days)
- Up to 6 household member profiles (Free retains 3)
- Premium dietary filters: Kosher, Halal, Keto, Sugar-Free, GMO-Free
- No advertisements
Premium Tier 2:
- Everything in Tier 1
- Unlimited household member profiles
- Household nutrition dashboard
- Priority barcode and ingredient-panel processing
- Exportable allergen reports (PDF) for pediatricians, school nurses, camp counselors
The FDA Big-9 allergen detection (gluten/wheat, milk, eggs, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish, fish, sesame) and the Vegan and Low-Sodium dietary filters are always free. Premium adds extra dietary filters and family-size capacity — never basic allergen safety.
We may add, remove, or change Premium features over time. If we remove something material, we'll tell you before the next billing cycle and give you the option to cancel.
5. How you can use the app
Use Welwa for personal, non-commercial purposes. Don't:
- Try to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app.
- Resell or redistribute the app or the data it shows you.
- Use automated tools to scrape product information through the app.
- Submit fake or malicious reaction reports if/when that feature ships in a future release.
- Use the app to harass, defraud, or harm anyone.
- Circumvent subscription, trial, or promo code restrictions.
We can suspend Premium access or block the app from our backend if you do any of the above.
6. Welwa is not a medical device
Read this section carefully — it matters.
Welwa is a label-reading aid. It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any medical condition, including allergies, intolerances, or dietary disorders. The verdict the app shows you (SAFE / REVIEW / AVOID / UNKNOWN) is our best read of publicly-available product data and the ingredient text you photograph — not a medical opinion.
You agree that:
- You will always read the product label yourself before consumption, especially when managing severe allergies for yourself or a household member.
- You will not rely on Welwa as the sole means of avoiding an allergen.
- A SAFE verdict is not a guarantee. Manufacturers reformulate products, ingredient panels can be incorrect or outdated, our data sources can be wrong, and the app can make mistakes (especially when OCR — Optical Character Recognition — reads an ingredient panel under difficult conditions).
- An UNKNOWN verdict means we do not have enough information. Treat it as "we don't know" — not as "safe."
- You will consult a licensed medical professional for any allergy diagnosis, allergy-management plan, dietary plan, or related medical decisions. Welwa is not a substitute for medical advice.
7. Product data and accuracy
Welwa gathers product information from several sources, including the USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, FatSecret Platform API, and UPCItemDB, plus on-device OCR of ingredient panels you photograph. We do our best to combine these into an accurate verdict, but:
- Sources disagree. When two sources disagree, we show both readings and surface a REVIEW verdict.
- Coverage gaps exist. Many regional and small-brand products are not in any database we use. For those, the app falls back to reading the ingredient panel directly from your photo.
- OCR is imperfect. Low-light, glare, motion blur, and rotated cans degrade text recognition. The sweep mode and multi-frame consensus we built reduce errors, but they don't eliminate them.
- Coverage of "may contain" and facility statements is partial. A manufacturer can say "produced in a facility that processes peanuts" on a product Welwa returns as SAFE. Read the label.
8. Manufacturer disputes
If you're a brand owner or manufacturer and you believe Welwa is misrepresenting your product (incorrect allergens flagged, outdated ingredient list, brand information wrong, etc.), email manufacturer-dispute@welwaapp.com. We respond within 48 business hours with the source we are using and a path to correct it. If the source is one of the upstream databases (USDA, OFF, FatSecret), we will help you correct it upstream so the fix flows through to every app that uses that source, not just Welwa.
For ingredient-panel OCR errors, you can provide a current photograph of your product's ingredient panel and we will update Welwa's parser if a systematic issue is found.
9. Reaction reports — not active in V1
Welwa V1 does not support submitting or sharing reaction reports. Any private "reaction log" notes you make in the app stay on your phone only — see the Privacy Policy.
A future Welwa release (V1.1 or later) may introduce an opt-in feature that lets you submit reaction reports to a community pool. It will be opt-in only, with an explicit consent screen, and it is not part of V1. When it ships, these Terms will be updated and you will be asked for fresh consent. The feature, when it ships, will follow ten structural safeguards documented publicly, including manufacturer-data-primary display, a minimum independent-user threshold, time-limited reports, and a manufacturer dispute mechanism.
10. Disclaimers and limit of liability
We provide Welwa "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent allowed by law:
- We disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- We are not liable for any allergic reaction, dietary mistake, medical event, or property damage resulting from your use of (or reliance on) the app or the verdicts it shows.
- Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Welwa will not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $25.
These limits do not apply where prohibited by law. If you live in a state that does not allow some of these exclusions (for example, certain consumer protections), the exclusion does not apply to you to the extent your state's law overrides it.
11. Intellectual property
Welwa, the Welwa name and logo, and the app's design and content are owned by Pacio LLC and protected by U.S. copyright and trademark law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on your personal Android devices for personal, non-commercial use. Any other use requires our written permission.
Product data shown in Welwa is provided by third-party sources under their respective licenses (USDA: public domain; Open Food Facts: Open Database License (ODbL); FatSecret: Platform API terms). We display required attribution as those licenses require.
12. Termination
You can stop using Welwa at any time by uninstalling the app or by clearing app data from Android's app-info screen. Subscriptions remain active through the end of the paid period unless you cancel — see Section 3.
We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms (see Section 5) or if continuing to provide the app to you would expose us to material legal risk. Where reasonable, we will give you notice; for serious violations or legal emergencies we may act first and notify after.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by emailing support@welwaapp.com will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Genesee County, Michigan, and both you and we consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
If you are a consumer covered by a different state's mandatory consumer protections, those protections still apply to you to the extent your state's law requires.
14. Changes to these Terms
When we change these Terms in any meaningful way, we update the "Last updated" date at the top, post the new version at welwaapp.com/terms, and (if you have an active subscription with a record on file) notify you in-app or by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Welwa after the effective date means you accept the new Terms. If you don't accept them, stop using the app and cancel any active subscription before the effective date.
Minor changes — typos, formatting, link updates — are posted without notice.
